This real fossilized Mako shark tooth measures 1 9/16 inches and carries a rich brown earthy coloration from root to tip. The root is a deep chocolate brown with a dry, finely pitted surface and a pronounced V shaped notch at the center, giving the tooth a strong winged silhouette across the top. Below it the blade shifts into a warmer honey brown with a smooth enamel finish.

The blade leans slightly to one side as it narrows, ending in a fine, well preserved point. Fine vertical striations run down the upper portion of the enamel near the root line, natural growth texture that stayed sharp through fossilization. Light travels along the face of the blade and pulls a soft highlight down its length.

Both cutting edges are smooth and unbroken. Mako sharks do not grow serrated teeth, so this clean edge is a species trait and not a sign of wear or erosion.

The tooth is held by a stainless steel wire wrap with a coiled bail, strung on a black Greek leather cord. Bone beads sit on both sides, patterned with dark rings around pale centers for a spotted look, and are separated by polished steel accent beads with coiled steel clamps at the cord ends.

This is the actual tooth you will receive.

Frequently Asked Questions

All sales are final unless the shark tooth necklace arrives damaged. See our Refund and Replacement policy for full details.

Is it normal for this Mako shark tooth to have no serration?

Yes. Mako sharks never develop serrated teeth. Their blades are built with smooth edges designed to spear and hold fast moving prey, so an unserrated edge confirms the species rather than indicating damage.

What is the notch at the top of this shark tooth?

That is the natural shape of the root, which splits into two lobes with a V shaped gap at the center. It is an original anatomical feature of the tooth and not a break or a repair.

How old is this fossilized shark tooth?

This Mako shark tooth is a genuine fossil and is over 10,000 years old.

Is this shark tooth real or is it a cast?

It is a real fossilized Mako shark tooth. We do not sell casts, resin copies, or reproductions.

Will I get this exact shark tooth pictured in the listing?

Yes. This listing is for the one tooth shown. Every tooth is one of a kind, so no other piece will match this shape, curve, or coloring.

What cord lengths can I choose for this shark tooth necklace?

The Greek leather cord is available in 18, 20, 22, or 24 inch. Select your length at checkout.

What are the spotted beads on this shark tooth necklace made of?

They are genuine bone beads with a dark ring and pale center pattern. The beads are not carved, and the spotting varies from bead to bead.

Where is this shark tooth necklace made?

Our family handmakes every necklace in the USA, one at a time.
