This is a real fossilized Mako shark tooth measuring 1 5/8 inches, wire wrapped and strung as a wearable necklace. The blade is broad through the shoulders and tapers into a heavy, blunt tipped point, giving this tooth more mass and presence than a typical Mako of the same length. The dark earthy coloration runs through the entire specimen, from the near black root down into a deep brown blade that catches light along the polished enamel face.

The root is thick and rough with visible pitting and fracture lines from its time in the sediment. Below it, the enamel is smooth and glossy with subtle vertical striations tracing down toward the tip. The contrast between the coarse root and the slick blade is what gives this tooth its character.

Mako shark teeth carry no serration on their cutting edges. Both edges on this tooth are smooth and continuous from root to tip, which is the correct and expected feature of the species rather than a sign of wear.

The tooth is secured with a stainless steel wire wrap and coiled bail, hung on a black Greek leather cord. Bone beads sit on either side of the tooth, banded with alternating black and white stripes running the length of each bead, separated by polished steel accent beads and finished with coiled steel clamps.

This is the actual tooth you will receive.

Frequently Asked Questions

All sales are final unless the shark tooth necklace arrives damaged. See our Refund and Replacement policy for full details.

Why does this Mako shark tooth have smooth edges instead of serration?

Mako sharks never grow serrated teeth. Their blades evolved with clean cutting edges built to grip and puncture fast swimming prey rather than saw through it. Smooth edges on this tooth are correct for the species and are not the result of wear or damage.

What gives this shark tooth its dark coloration?

The color comes from the minerals present in the sediment where the tooth fossilized. Dark earthy browns and near black tones develop naturally over thousands of years underground. Nothing on this tooth has been dyed or treated.

How old is this fossilized shark tooth?

This Mako shark tooth is a genuine fossil and is over 10,000 years old.

Is this a real shark tooth or a cast?

This is a real fossilized Mako shark tooth. It is not a resin cast, a mold copy, or a reproduction.

Will I receive this exact shark tooth shown in the photos?

Yes. This listing is for the one specific tooth pictured. Every tooth we sell is one of a kind and no two match in shape, size, or coloration.

What cord lengths are available for this shark tooth necklace?

The Greek leather cord comes in 18, 20, 22, or 24 inch. Choose your length at checkout.

What are the striped beads on this shark tooth necklace made from?

They are genuine bone beads with a banded black and white stripe pattern. The beads are not carved, and the banding varies slightly from piece to piece.

Where is this shark tooth necklace made?

Every piece is handmade in the USA by our family, one necklace at a time.
